Based on the DC Comics character Batman, "The Dark Knight" is a superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan that is a sequel to his 2005 film in the series "Batman Begins". The film stars Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne and the recently deceased actor, Heath Ledger, in his final role, as The Joker. The Dark Knight has earned over $500 million at the box office since its 2008 release.
