Farrah Fawcett has lost her nearly three year battle with cancer on June 25th 2009. On June 24, 2009 Extra! out of LA reported that a priest had been called to give Farrah Fawcett her last rites in an ICU unit, and that her loved ones were holding vigil.
On the morning of June 25, 2009 it was announced that Farrah Fawcett had died at the age of 62.
Farrah Fawcett was the face of the 1970's. A cultural icon who shot to fame as Jill Munroe on the cult classic Charlie's Angels, Farrah Fawcett was most famous for her feathered blonde hairstyle and dazzling smile. Fawcett was married to fellow 70's icon Lee Majors, star of The Six Million Dollar Man, from 1973–1982 and was then known as Farrah Fawcett-Majors.
Fawcett went on to receive numerous Golden Globe and Emmy nominations and earned critical acclaim for her role in The Burning Bed, a true story of Francine Hughes, the Michigan housewife who in 1977 lit her husband's bed on fire to kill him after enduring 13 years of domestic abuse. Fawcett was credited with drawing Hollywood's attention to the issue of domestic violence at a time when it was still a cultural taboo.
Farrah Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006, and began traditional treatments, including chemotherapy and surgery. On February 2, 2007, her 60th birthday, Farrah Fawcett announced that her cancer was in remission and that treatments had been successful.
Farrah Fawcett's cancer returned later in 2007 and she began seeking treatment outside of the United States. In April 2009 Farrah Fawcett took a turn for the worse and was admitted to hospital with complications.
A candid documentary called Farrah's Story chronicles the stars battle with the disease and is her dying tribute to others who are fighting cancer. She is hoping to inspire people to never give up hope. Farrah Fawcett's elder sister Diane Fawcett Walls died of lung cancer in 2001.
Long time love Ryan O'Neal, with whom she has a son Redmond O'Neal, is at her side and has been very public in his grief over losing her. "I will not know this world without her," he has stated in the press.
