The local food movement was initiated not only out of a desire to stimulate regional food economies and promote sustainability, but to address the growing issues surrounding food safety and freshness. Locavore refers to those who try to obtain locally grown or produced foods, usually within a 150 mile radius. This "eat local" challenge is driven by a desire for fresher, tastier, and safer food sources. The term was coined in 2005, and in 2007 was named the word of the year by the Oxford American Dictionary.
