Guinea's military rulers have named a banker, Kabine Komara, as their prime minister, a week after their coup. Hours after the death of long-time President Lansana Conte in December 2008, army officers led by Captain Moussa Dadis Camara moved to seize power, taking control of state radio and TV.
The ousted government initially opposed the coup but, as there was popular support for the takeover, soon pledged loyalty to Captain Camara.
The junta has so far ignored calls to relinquish power, but has promised to hold elections by the end of 2010, when President Conte's term of office would have expired.
