Hurricane Irene is set to reach the east coast of the United States on August 27, and to reach New York City by August 28. Roughly 65 million people lie in Irene's projected path; that constitutes roughly 1/5 of the US population. Air, rail and road travel will be snarled, and seaside communities are being evacuated. Those riding out Hurricane Irene are urged to stock up on supplies, which would include fresh water and food that does not require electricity to cook. Do not put off your preparation until the last minute.
