Roughly 65 million people lie in Irene's projected path; that constitutes roughly 1/5 of the US population. Air, rail and road travel will be snarled, and seaside communities are being evacuated. Those riding out Hurricane Irene are urged to stock up on supplies, which would include fresh water and food that does not require electricity to cook.
