Opposition leaders in Iran have taken a lesson from the demonstrators in Egypt, and are rallying their supporters to demonstrate against Ayatolla Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose 2009 election was widely denounced as fraudulent. Defying police orders, Iranians have taken to the streets in vocal protest. Emboldened by the success of their Egyptian neighbors, Iranians are now thinking that political change is attainable in Iran as well.
Police have attacked and detained demonstrators and opposition leaders, and are continuing the cycle of trying to block the flow of information in and out of Iran.
