Japan Earthquake & Tsunami 2011

An earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale, one of the 10 largest ever recorded, struck Japan on March 9, 2011. The quake triggered a devastating tsunami that has left hundreds dead. Hundreds more are still missing. The quake and tsunami did tremendous damage to infrastructure along Japan's east coast; destroying homes, shutting down airports, derailing trains, swamping roads, and triggering a reactor emergency at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

Tsunami warnings were issued across the Pacific, and tsunami waves were recorded as far away as California. Below you'll find the latest stories on the Japan earthquake and tsunami, as well as resources for finding loved ones and opportunities to donate to relief efforts.
