US Economic Stimulus Plan

The $787 billion dollar stimulus package that is central to President Barack Obama's recovery plan moved one step closer to becoming law after it passed a final vote in the House on Friday, February 13, 2009.

Called the biggest piece of make-work legislation since Roosevelt’s New Deal, Republicans did not support the amended plan and remain critical claiming the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is not the bipartisan document that Democrats suggest it is.

The final draft passed the Senate with limited support from the Republican party; only three Republican senators voted in favor of the bill. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be signed into law by President Obama in Denver, Colorado on February 17, 2009.
