Sudan

The Sudan is the largest country in Africa and the western region of Darfur is currently the home of the largest genocide in modern times that is still happening today. The United States is the only country to refer to what is happening in Darfur as 'genocide'.
The Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa tribes are the people that the United Nations have identified as those that are under attack in Darfur. On one side is the Sudanese government and the Janjaweed militia, and the other side is composed of rebel groups against the government, most notably the Sudan Liberation Movement. The government has said that they do not support the actions of the Janjaweed, who attack civilians and rebel groups, killing, raping, and mutilating their fellow man, but evidence has been presented that the government is supplying the Janjaweed with money and assistance.
In early March 2009, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Omar Al-Bashir, the Sudanese President, however he has told them to 'eat' their arrest warrant and is defiant that the Arab Union will not turn him over to the ICC. As a retaliation to this decision, Al-Bashir has ordered all aid agencies operating in Darfur to leave the region; some camps will run out of water and supplies in less than a week if the decision is not overturned.
The United Nations has stated that the Sudanese Government has operated and participated in war crimes and crimes against humanity, but the Sudan has one of the world's super powers as their ally: China. China buys a lot of their oil supplies from the Sudan, so they are unwilling to become involved in anything that may jeopardize their access to this liquid gold.
