Barack Obama has been elected the 44th president of the United States. Republican contender John McCain has conceded the vote in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to choosing the next president and vice-president, Americans have been voting in 35 Senate elections, in House of Representatives elections in all states, and elections for governor in 11 states.
