Tale of last 90 minutes of woman's life

Edith Isabel Rodriguez was left to die in a hospital emergency room lobby.

Aside from one patient who briefly checked on her condition, no one helped her. A janitor cleaned the floor around her as if she were a piece of furniture. A closed-circuit camera captured everyone's apparent indifference.

Arriving to find Rodriguez on the floor, her boyfriend unsuccessfully tried to enlist help from the medical staff and county police — even a 911 dispatcher, who balked at sending rescuers to a hospital.

Alerted to the "disturbance" in the lobby, police stepped in — by running Rodriguez's record. They found an outstanding warrant and prepared to take her to jail. She died before she could be put into a squad car.

If her boyfriend was there doing all this she was not 'left to die' - she was ignored by health authorities and died from....your snip does not say, was she a drug dependant, asthnatic, heart condition?

Pretty bad that this happened - do doubt it is common for people to be on the floor if the janitor cleaned around her....there is more to this story (of health care....or lack of it) other than this snippet.

Can you dig deeper?

good stuff:

She died from a perforated bowel, which really just begs the question. I'm not holding my breath for much more analysis from the hospital, judging by the patient care she recieved whilst still alive.

I hate to say this but it sounds a bit like Surrey Memorial.....

Thank you for posting this, Kadeeae. This is a big story, and one that will surely add fuel to the fire of the failures of the US healthcare system. I agree with Jordan that I'd like to see more info on this woman and her story...if you would edit to include more info about the victim that would be very helpful. Let us know if you need help.
