NP Rank:
Tall Street launches an open source alternative to Google
Tall Street is a new search engine concept which aims to make the process of ranking and displaying search results completely open and transparent. The system uses free market principles to rank websites in the same way as capital is allocated to companies on the stock market. This creates a fairer system because sites are ranked on how well they are expected to serve the searchers requirements, as opposed to how popular the site is.
What makes Tall Street especially unique is that not only is the ranking of results open, but their source code is as well. Other search engine players, like Google, guard the algorithms behind the ranking of their search results as closely as the makers of Coke guard their recipe.
We gave Tall Street a spin and while the concept behind Tall Street is certainly innovative and unique, it requires alot of human input to build useful results. At this stage there are many queries which don't return results as useful as the bigger players, however we did find some queries that returned excellent results that didn't show up on Google.

I think that the advent of an open-source search engine is newsworthy, but this should be recategorized as a Press Release.

tallstreet, thanks for improving your story -- I can see you've put more effort into it. I've removed the flag and now more readers can see it. Thanks for your contribution.
