Jurassic Park was right! New studies have shown that the soft tissues of the Tyrannosaurus Rex are very similar in structure to those of the chicken, which further helps to illustrate the link between birds and dinosaurs.

The discovery may also add fuel to the fire that T-Rex was not, as previously thought, a great predator. Rather, based on factors like body structure and teeth, he was likely a scavenger. After all, when was the last time you saw a chicken running down a Velociraptor?

The researchers from Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston sequenced seven tiny pieces of collagen protein and found a close match with amino acid sequences found in the collagen of present day chickens.

"Most people believe that birds evolved from dinosaurs but that's all based on the architecture of the bones," said John Asara, director of the mass spectrometry core facility at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical School and a Harvard Medical School instructor in pathology.
