Update 12:30 pm

Routine victims of crime, cabbies did what they could to protect themselves. Ron Smith General Manager of United Cabs in Port Alberni BC Canada says, "How do you screen an invisable thing like this"?
"We don't know if the fellas are active TB or not at this point" said Smith. "Naturally the guys don't feel to good about this" he added.

Two Port Alberni taxi drivers have tested positive for tuberculosis to date, as the Vancouver Island Health Authority screens the United Cab roster for the presence of the disease.
VIHA medical health officer, Dr. Fred Rockwell, said the screening process was ordered as a matter of protocol, after a patient with active TB advised that they had used taxis frequently.
Rockwell said the initial skin test for the disease merely indicates the presence of the TB organism, but in this case, the provincial TB Control agency will take immediate preventative action.
