As expected, the Teamsters Union has come out swinging as President Bush's initiative to open U.S. roads to Mexican truckers gets into gear.

On Saturday, Teamsters President James Hoffa wasted no time in taking a verbal tire iron to Bush's plan.

President Bush has "sucker punched" American workers and threatened national security by opening the nation's southern border to Mexican truckers, Teamsters President James Hoffa said Saturday.

Speaking to the union's annual women's conference, Hoffa said the Bush administration's new pilot program, which took effect Thursday, shows a lack of concern for homeland security.

PEP, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Now, drug and human traffickers are fast-tracked into our country.

There is no possible way to inspect the safety requirement standards of

their trucks, let alone their cargo. (think DMV)

They have purported it's a one-year trial. When has the

government ever terminated a temporary venture.

Thanks for the flag, Merrie.

Yep, temporary programs roll on. And there's no sense in politicians carrying on anymore about spending bug bucks to protect our borders. Bush just opened 'em up. As you said: think DMV. Heck, it's a hassle sometimes to even renew your license; all the agencies and work needed to inspect those trucks? Not going to happen.

And, do these drivers carry some sort of special permit? Will they get an automatic green card? If there's a new level of documentation, then there'll be more forging of documents. It's a mess, a web that just keeps spinning out trouble.
