$100 Million UAV Contract Sold to Undisclosed Foreign Buyer
Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) has recently unveiled a kamikaze munitions drone, known as HAROP. The UAV is classified as a Loitering Munitions system. The drone searches and patrols an area, when a target is acquired, a collision course is set and 50 pounds of onboard explosives are directed towards a target.
A new kamikaze drone out of Israel is designed to hang about overhead until it spots a target, then crash into it with "pinpoint accuracy" destroying the target, and itself, with 50 pounds of on-board explosives.
An undisclosed foreign buyer has signed a $100 million contract for HAROP. Additionally the German government has agreed to incorporate the new vehicles into their military. The increased UAV precision and human safe guards are toted to reduce collateral damage.
Isreal is ranked as the number one military spender per capita, thus it is not surprising that HARPO is such a capable hybrid of reconnaissance and predator.
Other Aerospace companies have come out with equally impressive UAVs. Lockheed Martin has created what it calls a Multiple Kill Vehicle, which can hover and move in 3D space.
