12-Year-Old Finds iPhone Security Flaw

Thanks to his SMS-happy and lovestruck 12-year-old, blogger Karl Kraft has documented a security flaw in the iPhone. Seems that the lad figured out how to disable the SMS preview to keep his folks from snooping through his texts (I'd have done the same). However, changing the phone setting as described below disabled the function.

Those settings block the display of incoming text messages and show an alert saying 'New Text Message' if a text comes through while the phone is locked. However, if the phone is set to emergency call mode the incoming text messages are previewed.
Thus all I need to do to intercept the messages from his girlfriend is to place the phone in emergency mode and wait 30 seconds for the next sickly sweet message.
The specifics:

For those how care, this is bug 6267416. I don’t have much hope for it being fixed soon, because my security bug 5368148 from July of 2007 is still marked as open, and still unfixed in 10.5.5.
Wai-wai-wait... 12 year olds have girlfriends now? When did I get old?
