2009 Economic Stimulus Check: Who is Eligible for a Rebate?
The 2008 Stimulus/Rebate program saw stimulus checks of $600 sent out directly to Americans but there will be no second checks to cash in 2009.
The average individual or family will not see a stimulus check but those on Social Security, the retired and the disabled, may be eligible for rebates.
The $800 billion stimulus package that was passed last week contained no provision for rebate checks to be given directly to taxpayers in 2009.
The 2008 stimulus checks were a small attempt by the Bush government to fend off a recession, now that the recession is here the government doesn't feel direct cash infusions will help.
Here is a summary of the various 2009 tax credits and social program funding that were covered under the $800 billion stimulus package.
So here's what's in the latest version of the 2009 Stimulus for you as of 2/25/09:
- Tax cuts: $500 income tax cut for singles, $1,000 for couples...which comes to roughly $13 per week in your pay check, depending on your income
- For the Unemployed: another $25 a week, plus an additional 5 months in benefits
- For a Family on Food Stamps: Roughly another $79 a month
- For Seniors on Social Security: A one time check of $250
- For people on SSI Disability: A one time check of $250
- Fore Government Retirees: A one time $250 tax credit
- For New Car Buyers: You can now deduct sales tax paid...but not the interest you pay each year on the loan, which was in an earlier version.
- For First time home buyers: an $8,000 government tax credit that does not have to be paid back...which Realtors say will be much better than last year's $7,500 loan, which had to be paid back, and had little effect. However, an early version that called for a much more significant $15,000 credit has been shot down.
Republicans claim the President's Stimulus plan is far too pork laden. However, some Economists claim it is too small. They are quoting the famous line from the 1980's: "Where's the beef?" They say more needs to be spent, sooner, to get us out of recession. This debate will go on for some time.
But is an extra $13 a week enough to stimulate you to buy that a new house or car? If you had been hoping for more, you too may ask "Where's the beef?"
For questions about the 2008 Stimulus/Rebate program, such as why you never received a $600 Rebate Check, or why your check was smaller than it should have been, or how the Rebate Check is causing problems on your taxes, you need to contact the IRS. Click the IRS links above.

I think it's great that first time home buyers can catch that $8000 without having to pay it back, but what about those who took the 7500 last year and still have to pay it back? That's not exactly fair. And as for the food stamp increase, I think that is crrap considering the help they got was free to them any how. I'm married with 3 boys and barely get by, yet don't qualify for a gosh darn thing. I don't see how anything mentioned is going to help hard working people make it.
at 20:22 on February 26th, 2009
AMEN!!! I took the 7500 last year and am just sick to hear of the 8000 deal. Although I feel as though I did my part by using local companies to make some much needed home improvements to my house, I am a single mother of 2, just squeaking by. You're right - it's not fair that I'll have to pay that money back and someone that bought a home 2 months after me will receive a larger sum and NOT have to pay it back.
at 13:40 on May 11th, 2009
Why did you accept the 7500 loan in the first place? That's like accepting a loan from anyone else you have to pay it back.
at 13:17 on March 10th, 2009
I don't see at all how this stimilus package will help out with anything.

I just wanted to let you know that I am a single-parent of 2. And not by choice I may add. I am a widow. I do work. And I do receive food-stamps. So I think that everyone needs to understand a lot of us that receive help. Do not sit at home and just collect welfare. I can say that I work for my welfare. I pay taxes like everyone else.
at 11:14 on April 1st, 2009
Good Job, I agree with what your saying. Some of us do earn welfare. But some people just don't understand. And its not just the mexicans, its also white trash that are a bunch of sorry sons of bitches and crack heads.
at 06:45 on May 29th, 2009
Waht about the black no good sons of bitches that are the first ones to always have their hands out and the biggest percentage of crack heads, pimps, and dealers?
at 10:25 on June 11th, 2009
not all black ppl are like that n if i recall we see more whites on cops lol n yall are our main customers n the main way i get paid sounds to me like ur nuttin more then n hatin ass bigget

im like you i help out at a farm so i dont sit home eaither.. We should be able to get something extra to help us out
at 16:37 on April 20th, 2009
I am a fulltime mother of three plus raising my nephew so he doesn't end up in foster care and i do recieve state aid but i work damn hard. I agree there is people out there who sit on there but and collect free money but there are people out there like me that don't and that is where the county workers need to do there job and make these lowlifes that collect follow through with the requirements to keep receiving benefits. So people need to understand that these benefits are out there to help but it needs to help those families who are helping themselves instead of those garbage people who sit on there asses.....

I totally understand what you are saying. I'm a devorced a mother of three working and going to college. I recieve all these benefits like food stamps. There is alot of ignarent people. Also there is alot of dead beat fathers that get away from there child support but you dont hear much about that. Also that it requires a sufficient amount of money to dress and perpare are children to go to school. Having a stimulaus check like last year would help me since last year when those checks came i got nothing, cause my ex took everthing even took my car and the three kids from me to try to control me to go back with him. Everything unfolded i got my kids back cause he got arrested like six times. He even planned to burn me in my car. used some of the stimulus money to pay some one to distroy my car. well anywas i believe if some that helps them self deserves every bit of money they can get. Kids do not deserve anyless nethier do us women.

To you who thinks the the food stamp increase is crap.. well i am a single mother with 3 kids, I'm have a full time job plus at least 14 hours overtime, but my job is a server at a resturant(not the big bucks) , I also am going to college for a criminal justice major....I don't like have to get benefits from the state... but my job is slow right now..so don't think something is crap before you know who really gets the benefits..

Hello, My name is Sakita Mckinney, im 32 years of age, im single parent and i' been taking care of my babies, every since i was 17yrs of age wen i had my first son , and my grandma had taught all of us in life u have 2 work for what you want in life and never depend on noone but yo self cause wen u want some you got 2 make that scarfice and believe in yo self wen nobody else will and dont blame noone else for yo doing thats wat i was taught wen i was coming up so long as you have faith and believe and trust in the man above you would accomplish all things so i just want 2 leave that with you may god bless
at 12:35 on May 14th, 2009
Sakita,
Why do you continue to have children that you are unable to provide for? Most of the "single-mothers" that commented on this site had no business producing another child that will not be taken care of becase thier parents had a moment of sexual weakness that will cost the entire country until that child is 18 and then the cycle will begin to repeat itself. How do the rest of us that work and pay taxes feel about supporting your illigitimate children? It is obvious from your posting that you have not bothered furthering your education to better provide for your children. Having Faith in God is important but He also gives us free will to make our own lives better.

Your posting is very judgmental and uncalled for.All single parents are not single because of bad choices. Also, in the economic times that we are living in everyone needs a little help. You can look at it three ways; and either way everyone is entitled to help. From a religious stand point we should care for our neighbors as we would ourselves, and that includes encouraging instead of demeaning a person choices. Also God's Living Word(Holy Bible) says that we have not because we ask not.Further more the government has not governed very well in the past and we face serious issues in the future.there probably won't be any SSA benefits for those that retire 30-40 years from now.So if the assistance is available when the need is there than yes the government does have the obligation of providing for US citizens or else we ourselves will turn to a 3rd world country in no time.Lastly, each and everyone of us make decisions based on the information we have at that particular time.So you may have made some good choices, but what about the ones you didn't know how they would turn out?And to be blunt, more single mothers would like to work but because they choose to be mothers to their children or work just to pay for childcare they have to make that sacrifice.Or would you like them to go make money while their children go astray. My point is that you are a part of the problem and not the solution. We need more education, more extended family structure and most of all, faith in God and not ourselves. It may be baffling but everyone is not where you and I might be financially or spiritually.I thank God for giving me a wonderful life after becoming a single mother because before I got re-married it was pretty hard for my son and myself.I received every kind of government assistance there was so we could make it.Until I met a friend that helped me in every area I was weak in, including finances and self-confidence.I'm proud to say that that friend has been my husband now for the past 8 years but that's just it.What God has for one person it can not be altered by the doubt of the person or the outside world.I pray that you become a better US citizen and christian so that you we know the joy of helping someone when they didn't think they couldn't see a way out!

Who in the hell do you think you are? What makes you so much better than other people that you feel that you can judge them and tell them what they should do. Are you God (I do not think so). I will tell who you are. You are an asshole. Are you a single parent? Do you have any kids (probably not). do you know everybody different situation or what has happened in there lives. This is what is wrong with our society, assholes like you want to judge people before getting all the facts and are way to concerned about other peoples business instead of their own. I guess I can assume you have a very unhappy life so you judge others and tell them what to do or what they should do. I work my ass off to support my kids and it is still not enough. I also have a college degree that does not help with shit. So before you get all judgemental about something you know nothing about get your facts straight ASSHOLE.

Do you have any children? Or can your nasty ass cunt produce any?
at 05:26 on May 28th, 2009

at 09:12 on May 8th, 2009
I THINK THAT IF YOUR STRUGGLING THAT BAD YOU NEED TO JOIN THE FREE FOOD RECEIVING AMERICA, AND QUIT CRYING. Its free and i'm getting it, because i do need the help>>>>
at 08:29 on June 24th, 2009
i agree this new plan is not going to help stimulate anything, but i do receive food stamps and they only get me half way through the month.
at 18:37 on March 1st, 2009
I agree with u all I have a year old daughter and a wife I am trying to support and trying to put my wife through college why are we "the average american" having to suffer through all this when everyone else out their is getting all the help what are we supposed to do drown in our bills that just keep stacking up because we are layed off or not getting enough hour to make ends meet obama we need help as well
at 10:56 on March 2nd, 2009
I agree whole heartedly with you all. My dellima is, what about the people who already had houses and are loosing them because of the bad economy. Where is their help. For the people who are just buying houses, they are fine because they had to have something going right for them to even be able to buy a house. My husband and I are buying our house and like you all we can't get any help from anywhere, and we have an extended family of 5 children. And Lord knows we need as much help as possible. Insurance, child care, clothes, groceries and all of life's necessities are overwhelming for us and we don't get any assistance and the money we make is gone before we get it because we are both state emploees and get paid only once a month. It's just pure hell right now!!
at 08:16 on March 3rd, 2009
i think this is bs. 13 dollers a pay check is nothing at all that is not going to do anything for us. And what about our soliders over seas they get nothing and they are the ones fighting for us. I think Obama needs to do what was done last yeaar that really helped familys out unlike awhole 13 dollers a week. I mean relly come on.
at 09:22 on April 13th, 2009
