The 2011 Ford Explorer will be made in Chicago, creating 1,200 new jobs. The 2011 Ford Explorer will be built on the Ford Taurus chassis, bringing it closer to the SUV's ancestor, the station wagon. The Chicago Ford plant once built the Model T, which made Ford a household name.

Left Lane News boasts some 2011 Ford Explorer photos- see below.

According to several news reports, Ford wants the new Explorer to become “greener.”

The fuel economy of the Explorer will increase and CO2 emissions figures should be reduced by as much as 25 percent.

This is a $400 million investment by Ford, which is moving Explorer production from its current home in Kentucky. These 1,200 new hires may include some lower-wage hires, pending union negotiations. Layed off UAW workers would have first go at these new jobs, but the wage would be around half of what they used to make.

Better yet would be for Ford to develop with Government help a sound public transport system based on renewable energy and faze out car by replacing them with public mass transportation vehicle running on renewable energy.

One can still have hope. :)
