2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Key to Chrysler Recovery Plan

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a key part of the Chrysler recovery plan and was unveiled April 8, 2009 at the New York International Auto Show.  The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee claims to be more fuel efficient and is bigger than previous models.

The totally redesigned and revamped 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will go on sale in 2010.  Chrysler is pinning high hopes on the new Jeep Grand Cherokee which is considered by industry analysts to be a "critical, core product that has to be done right."


Chrysler, facing bankruptcy under a 30-day deadline to reorganize debt, win labor concessions and form a partnership with Turin, Italy-based Fiat, promoted the redesigned Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300 sedan as among the company’s “most successful, iconic models” in the viability plan it submitted to the government in February.


Chrysler first introduced the Jeep Grand Cherokee in 1990 and hit was sold two years later.  The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is 2 inches longer than the original and 3 inches wider.  It boasts an 11% improvement in overall fuel economy, using an average of 10.2 liters per 100 kms (23 MPG) on the highway and 4.3 liters per 100 kms (16 MPG) in the city.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the first Chrysler vehicle to use the new Phoenix V-6 engine that offers 280-horsepower in a 3.6L model.  The base model comes with an all leather interior and the higher end Overland model boasts a leather dashboard as well.
