The 3DS, Nintendo's newest handheld which allows users to see video games in 3D without using glasses, has become the company's most successful system launch in Europe.

For its first two days of sales, the handheld sold over 303,000 units, 113,000 of which were from the UK alone. The sales top the previous launch weekends for both the Wii and DS in the UK, which sold 87,000 units and 105,000 units respectively.

"Nintendo 3DS allows people to experience, for the first time, 3D technology on the move and at home, with fun and surprises for all to enjoy," said Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe's managing director of marketing and PR.

The news joins the growing success story for the handheld, which sold more units on its launch day than any other from the company in the United States as well.
