So maybe New York City's subway stations flood during a spring rain, and the streets smell like a wastebin, but the Big Apple's emergency hotline is next-level, becoming the first system to be able to process photo and video imagery from mobiel phone cameras.
Tipsters in New York City can now send photos and video from computers and Web-enabled cell phones and PDAs to the city's 911 and non-emergency hot lines to report crimes and quality-of-life issues such as potholes, officials announced Tuesday.
Canada's main equity benchmark, which derives more than three-quarters of its value from energy, materials and financial stocks, has lost $142.1 billion (C$152.24 billion) of its value in six trading days this month. It has fallen 19 percent from its June 18 peak.
Research In Motion may gain C$4.24 to C$110.27, bids already submitted in Toronto indicated.
In preparation for the upgrade, more than 12,000 new computers were reportedly installed in precincts around the city and police operators received special training on how to handle emergency calls that contained images or video.
