NP Rank:
911 GT3 R goes intelligent
Could you ever thought about Porsche being a hybrid? Neither could I but Germans decided it's time to be more economical. So they created a hybrid.
The new 911 GT3 R is due to be officially launched in Geneva Motor show on the 4th of March. And not long after it will be tested in the 24h race at the Nurburgring.
But despite Porsche being a hybrid, it actually won't be a typical one. Instead of being packed with batteries it will have an electrical flywheel generator which will deliver power to electric motors fitted at the front. And the GT3 R will have two of them, each developing 60kW. They will be a good companions to the 4.0 litre flat-six engine capable of producing 480bhp.
The GT3 R will be the first, but not the last hybrid for Porsche. The technology is due to be used for road-going cars in the future.
