MDI Vehicle shines in New York
Today (20 March 2008) the 100% Solar & Sustainable IT MDI–Energy Initiative takes another step towards sustainable solar lifestyles for all, as our JV partner, MDI (Moteur Development International s.a) of France, unveils a version of the MDI Compressed Air powered car on the international stage in New York, to feature in the launch of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize at the prestigious New York International New York Auto Show.
The X-Prize Foundation designs the X-Prize to “incite innovation by tapping into our [human] competitive and entrepreneurial spirits”. In recent years, the X-Prize has encouraged the development of private space travel. The Ansari X-Prize was awarded to the Mojave Aerospace Ventures team in 2004. SpaceShipOne is the first of a new generation of private, commercial vehicle designed carry people into space.
The Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize
On 20 March 2008, the X-Prize Foundation announced at the New York International Auto Show that it has partnered with Progressive Insurance to offer a $ USD 10 Million Automotive X-Prize.
“Imagine a world where super efficient cars are desirable, affordable and everywhere… where gasoline no longer makes history, but is history…” *
“Our goal is to stimulate automotive technology, manufacturing and marketing breakthroughs that:
* Radically reduce oil consumption and harmful emissions
* Result in a new generation of super-efficient and desirable mainstream vehicles that people want to buy “ *
The 100% Solar & Sustainable IT MDI–Energy Initiative
The 100% Solar & Sustainable IT MDI–Energy Initiative aims to usher a smooth transition to 100% solar based and fully sustainable infrastructures for power generation, transport and communications, and welcomes the innovation encouraged by the Progressive Automotive X-Prize as a platform to showcase the efficiency and sustainability of the MDI transportation technology that is core component of the Initiative.

Yes, ...and there it is. ...but it really is worth visiting the website, as there are several short videos that explain the whole process comprehensively.

Maireid Sullivan, I like this story. It's good stuff. Friggin Awesome Maireid, I had read about this last year in it's infancy, quite an accomplisment, and hopefully a way to rid us of the notion that biofuels are the way to go. Excellent, thanks for the story

Me too, Barry, I have been thinking about all along, hoping it really was true, so I could get one! :)
I read the PR when MDI signed with the Indian car maker - about a year ago. It turns out that was 'only' a license for India to make the car, rather than an exclusive contract. I see they are inviting others to 'buy in'. Whatever happens in terms of partnerships, it looks like this car will hit the road! The whole concept of using compressed air for heating and cooling is also on their agenda. fantastic stuff!

Will do, and thanks
You know what strikes me funny in a Buzz Word World of Environmental Conciousness, global warming, alternative fuels, carbon footprint etc... Is that amongst like half a million Now Public Readers that only three of us has actually made a comment on here, on what is a story of Nobel Proportions, makes one wonder of anyone is serious or are they now treating all the Environmental Blathering Bombarding us as White Noise?

I've had 360 views so far. Maybe they don't feel a need to comment - just learn. Let's hope they take time to look at the info on the website, so they can learn how 'real' this technology is. You are right ! It is Nobel proportions! I'll visit the Nobel website and bring this to their attention.:)
...good idea!
