Frontier is a major low-cost airline with two thirds of its US destinations west of the Mississippi River. The carrier maintains its primary hub at Denver International Airport, and provides regional service to the surrounding Rocky Mountain States through a codeshare agreement with Great Lakes Airlines. The airline also codeshares with Horizon Air, operating as Frontier JetExpress. In 2007, Republic Airlines will slowly replace Horizon Air as the operator of Frontier JetExpress.

Frontier offers a single class of service. While Frontier does market itself as a low-cost carrier, it differentiates itself in the market by offering LiveTV, an in-seat satellite television service, for five dollars on all domestic flights, and in-seat movies for eight dollars.

The A319 is a shortened, minimum change version of the A320. With virtually same fuel capacity as the A320-200, and fewer passengers, the range with 124 passengers in 2-class configuration extends to 3,900 nautical miles, the highest in its class. The A320 and A319 are the most popular variants of the A320 family.
