Ouch! A harsh assessment of Heathrow by an American Airlines executive. Although I have to say, having used both BA's facilities and AA's facilities at Heathrow, I don't think it's Heathrow's fault that their check-in is a dump. Other airlines have perfectly fine check-ins at Heathrow.

A senior American Airlines executive said on Tuesday that London's Heathrow was the worst airport used by the company in Europe.

Don Langford, head of customer services Europe for the airline, said its base at Terminal 3 had suffered from a lack of investment and was "a bit of a dump".

"I would have to say that Heathrow is in many ways the worst of all the airports that my company flies to in Europe," he told the BBC.

The damning verdict comes a month after the opening of Heathrow's new Terminal 5 building descended into chaos, with hundreds of flights cancelled and baggage lost.

I took a picture of the customer service kiosk because it was incongruous to find that staffed adequately after security, whilst the check-in counters (before security) were woefully under-staffed.

Dave Keating, I like this story. It's good stuff.

This was to be expected after enormous problems they were having after T5 opened.

Dave Keating, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I have always hated this airport and unfortunately in the 80's and 90's I passed through it on a weekly basis.

Up until a few years ago it was really bad if you were travelling to Ireland (one of the most profitable routes), you had to walk miles to end up in an area that was little better than a cattle pen and then you could sit there for hours.

Because many Irish business people started using alternative hubs in Europe the conditions did improve but as I have not been there for about three years I cannot comment on what it is like now. When I last used the airport security prevented me from boarding as they claimed that I had a forged ticket which was strange considering that it had been issued to me by BA in the airport (I should explain that I had agreed to a request from the airline to swap with someone who needed to get home early due to a family emergency. They issued new tickets to both of us and in case your are wondering I did not receive any payment for doing so). The plane took off without me and then they discovered that they had made a mistake.

Just thinking about using that airport puts me off travelling. Far too busy, chaotic, timeconsuming and downright awful! I think it really is the worst airport ever.

It's my "home" airport in the UK. I must admit, it never provides much of a welcome when I get off a 10-hour flight.

We bought Golf Airline ticket in USA for Kathmandu, Nepal. We had confirm ticket when we flew from Chicago, USA. At the Hearthhrow air port Golf ticket counter, the associate lady told us that our ticket is not issued for kathmandu, Nepal. And also there is not return ticket issued. So they asked us to wait while they are working on it. We waited 4 hours before we got our confirm ticket back.
