#alanshair phenomenon takes twitter by storm
Twitter, the micro-blogging site, has been praised for its user generated and fueled growth, and tonight one young man from Ireland experienced that first hand, when his hair became one of the hottest trends on twittter - globally.
Alan Costello http://alancostello.com, a young blogger from Ireland found his hair peaking on the Twitter trends when his friend James Foley (http://www.whiteheadphones.net) commented that Alan's ever-creative hair needed a Twitter account of its own.
Using the hashtag #alanshair James posted his comments, and others began to take note. Hashtags are used to indicate topics and are then tracked by several sites, including Twitter itself, for trending. As interest grew this in-joke between friends rapidly became a phenomenon and soon #alanshair was spreading like wildfire, even peaking at number 4 in the hot trends, ahead of AiG.
By 1:00 a.m. it looked like it was all over. As James put it in one of his tweets "as fast as it begun, the #alanshair meme has run out of steam... weirdest..twitter..moment...EVER!!".
Full details about Alan, his hair and the phenomenon can be found here: http://aislinnoc.wordpress.com/ and whilst the buzz seems to have died down now, anything is possible with Twitter and user power.
The final word goes to Alan and his now famous hair, "Right, I must be off, #alanshair needs its rest, night all! :) ".

It was a completely surreal experience…I'll never forget the night I was suddenly more popular than both AIG and Battlestar Galactica ;)
