Amazon UK's biggest online retailer

Just behind Amazon.com, holding the top spot as the UK’s number one retailer, we find Apple’s online store, which leapfrogged six-places in the past quarter.

Apple’s online store has become the second-most visited online retail site in the UK, beaten only by retail giant Amazon.com, according to new research.

New data from Experian Hitwise and IMRG shows that Apple has jumped six-places north of its previous slot to beat Argos as the second-place contender in the UK online retail space, with no let up in sight from Amazon, which still reigns supreme ahead of other major brands.

But Apple is catching up, with Apple accounting for one in every 250 visits from UK web users in last month alone. In total, 14 million visits to the Apple online store were recorded, an increase of five-fold.

Between August and October, Argos who previously held second place slipped to third, grocery and supermarket chain Tesco remained at fourth place, followed by clothing chain Next, then Marks & Spencer, and then online music and video store Play.comwww.zdnet.com

Highlights

  • Apple jumps six places in the Hot Shops list to snare the number two position from Argos for the first time ever - beaten only by Amazon.
  • Poor quarter for Home & Garden websites with Homebase dropping three places to 42nd place and IKEA dropping one place to 32, while B&Q failed to regain momentum from earlier this year, remaining in 18th place.
  • The fastest movers this quarter were ASDA Direct (up 23 places), Very.co.uk (+19), Ticketmaster (+16), H&M (+15) and Toys R Us (+15). Having moved up two places last quarter, Next fell back down to fifth place.
  • Travel websites fell in the rankings this quarter: easyJet, Expedia, Ryanair, Lastminute.com, British Airways and Thomas Cook all dropped down the rankings, though this was expected after the summer peak.www.hitwise.com

The Chief Rabbi of England just blamed selfishness on Steve Jobs and Apple. He must have forgotten about Sodom and Gomorrah.
