NP Rank:
Amazon to sell OLPCs

The One Laptop Per Child Foundation offers a low cost, Linux-based, easily repairable laptop to children in places where computers are rare and expensive; however, you can now buy one from Amazon.com (November). For a low price (probably $500) you'll receive an OLPC while also donating one to a needy child.
I remember the ‘Give One Get One’ program from last year, but there were many problems with laptop deliveries due to the overwhelming response. Hopefully they've remedied this by partnering with Amazon.

Low-cost laptops from the One Laptop Per Child Foundation of Cambridge will go on sale at Amazon.com this holiday season, making the $200 computers available for the first time through a retail store.

Jason Sanders, I like this story. It's good stuff.
What a fantastic idea. I'm aware of the OLPC project, but hadn't previously heard of "Give One Get One."
If anyone can handle the demand it's Amazon. Let's hope there's another 'overwhelming demand', just in time for Xmas.

Thanks for the GS mchawk. Yeah, it was available to North Americans last year (or earlier this year, maybe). I wanted to do it, but didn't have the money.
Here's to overwhelming success!

Nice post; working @ olpc, I'm glad to see the program come back this year! As an XO user, if there are other photos you need, let us know; the DC club held a photo jam recently just to capture interesting images of the laptops in use.
You should update this post, tho -- it will be $400, not $500.
