Americans are Maintaining Their Level of Donating for Charity

The research director of Center on Philanthropy Indiana University, Una Osili said the forecasts could alter if the economy looks different as the year draws to a close.

Despite recession blues American are maintaining their level of donating for charity. This holiday season it will not be different from others although the economy is wobbly – this is the finding of a national survey. Nearly 62% of the donors contend that their contributions would be the same as the previous year. 10% said they will contribute more according to the poll operated by polling firm, Caravan, on behalf of the Red Cross.

The citizens are ready to trim their expenses on holidays, parties and gifts to dear ones to keep up with their donations. Nearly 70% are ready to spend less on the above category of expenses. A mere 23% said they would contribute less towards charity. Over 50% said that it was because of the condition of the economy that they felt it was important to maintain their own levels of giving this year.
