A list of America's deadliest jobs has been compiled from recently released to data from the Department of Labor. The 2009 list of deadliest jobs is topped by fishing and ocean related professions followed by transportation.
According to Forbes.com and the Department of Labor statistics, the top 10 most deadly jobs in America are:

Recently released Department of Labor data show that fishermen (and fisherwomen) and other workers in fishing-related professions were the most likely to die on the job in 2008. Of 39,000 fishing workers in the nation, 50 were killed, a rate of 128.9 per 100,000 full-time workers. Rough seas, unpredictable deadly weather and isolation during emergencies all make the job more unsafe than any other. It's no wonder that the industry's perils have given rise to a popular documentary TV series, Deadliest Catch, and a best-selling book and hit Hollywood film, The Perfect Storm.

If flying is one of the 'safest ways to travel', how can Aircraft Pilots and Flight Engineers be the third most dangerous job? : )Something doesn't add up.

If you really think about this, flying is the safest in comparison to driving, for example, simply because the ratio of accidents occurring in cars is a lot higher than the amount of plane crashes you hear about. There may be hundreds of car accidents per one plane crash, but not every car crash is fatal. Generally there are no survivors in plane crashes, as well as the fact that there are over a hundred people on board in comparison to the few passengers in a car. So, if you think about it that way, it's very possible that it can be the third most dangerous job. :p

The most dangerous job statistically would have to be the president of the United States. The assassination percentage is 10.75%!I dont see any other job having a death rate that high. Even over the years, I doubt any job can come close. Even the military.

Police respond to crime. Im most cases the bad guys are long gone. Usually when an officer is killed is because they made mistake . Years ago when I was thinking of going into law enforcement i spoke to an older officer about the job and he informed me that he was a secretary with a badge and gun. If you want to be a good cop get a degree in english not admin of justice.

Nowhere in this article are our American soldiers mentioned. 4,345 have died in the Iraq war since it began in 2003. I'm sure this should rank up there in the top ten.

If fishing are ranked as the most dangerous job in U.S, how come we, citizens of America, do not stop eating fish and seafood and thus we can avoid those deaths. I haven heard that someone can die if he/she stop eating fish or seafood.
