In a Shocking Move, Andy Parks Has Left WMAL After 25 Years as Morning Host and Traffic Reporter

Fans of Andy Parks and 630 WMAL radio's morning program expressed shock on April 26 when they learned that Parks will no longer be part of the morning show as host and traffic reporter, after 25 years on the job.

In a statement released by WMAL, it did not give any reason for the departure, but stated that Parks is an 'exceptional talent, consummate professional and friend'.

According to FishbowlDC, both Andy Parks and Fred Grandy have been fired, and that while their end date has not been announced, 'word has it' that these two employees were too expensive and so in order to save money, the duo was let go. The station manager Paul Duckworth did not answer their phone call for a comment by the time that piece was published so many things are still unknown at this time.

Parks will be replaced by Bryan Nehman's show called Nehman's News and Notes, which is described as 'not a traditional news hour' and where you will not just hear a repeat of the same news stories over and over again.

DCRTV is speculating where Andy Parks will go from here; could he be moving to WBAL?

With Andy Parks gone from WMAL, after at least two decades at the DC talk station, will he land a new gig on the local radio dial? Sources say he could be heard next on Baltimore news talker WBAL.

It is odd that Chris Core, Andy Parks, and possibly Fred Grandy will all have been let go due to cost since Hussein Obama took office and can leverage the FCC.

Did you hear them joking about having a "what did Mohamed sound like" contest on WMAL...I would bet this is more of  management bowing  to CARE than to the FCC

What is it about Obama that you really hate? You can't really believe that the FCC would pressure an AM station with few listeners to "protect" the White House by having Andy Parks fired.  Try reality.  Or just admit that having a non-white president pisses you off.

Yes, having a racist, communist, anti-Amercan, Constituional usurper as President is annoying. If Obama said 2 plus 2 was 5 you'd say he was correct.   Who is the racist here? You have no credibility whatsoever.

2
Someone out here

You are an idiot playing the race card. You are an equivalent to a Charlie McCarthy puppet on a Democrat strategist/liar's arm, spouting off what they want you to say. Can't you idiots out there actually listen to the guy and watch him instead of what thinking about what political party you belong to???  Or what party you perceive to be cool to belong to?  I would be happy to have Alan Keyes and Herman Cain for president BOTH are BLACK and Conservative.  And would be better than some of the white presidents.  Obama does not know what he is doing. Sometimes he overacts on this and makes me think that HE is the Charlie McCarthy puppet on someone else's arm being the front man, excuse me, front male. (Obama is not a mature man.)  He is such an egotistical idiot. He reminds me of the know it all teenager who has memorized the "This Is How It Is Supposed To Be In Life" handbook and let me force these rules down your throat because I know this is the ONLY way.  And then he does not have the glimmer of "recognition of reality" in his eye. He has the self involved glaze over his eyes that most people of our generation have.I remember the time of good Democrats. Now the Socialist and Communist blood in the Democrat party is getting too thick. Right now, I would be happy to have the big time "Lying-Pervert" back in office instead of Obama.

Hey Ed......Have you always been a racist?  Obama is unpopular with thinking people because they realize that his policies will destroy America as we know it.  Your last best hope is capitalism, not socialism/Marxism.  Obama is a radical Muslim who still won't provide proof of his U.S. citizenship.  I have to produce a VALID birth certificate in order to receive Social Security, but Obama can be President without providing the same proof?  Oh, and lest we forget, Obama is America's number one supporter of the pro-murder agenda.  Ironic isn't it?  Just think...........if all those little babies hadn't been murdered, the majority of them would probably be Democrats today and give the pathetic, communist, Democratic party a stranglehold on our government forever!  You won't admit it, but you WILL rue the day that Obama became President.

You are a bit upset, aren't you?

I totally agree. The people who voted in these socialist, fascist people are reeping what they sowed. Medicare has been cut. the Military has been cut. We have censorship at every turn. If any of you vote Democratic in any future election, the shame will be on you.

I've been a loyal listener for many years.  So much for that.  Nehman stinks.  Guess I'll be going to WTOP in the mornings.

Disappointed Listener

WMAL is being penny wise and pound foolish.  I like Brian and will listen to his segment but I can't stand Plante

I agree 100%.  WMAL's button has already been replaced on my radio.

WMAwhat?

More than disappointed listener - sandra

I echo sentiment above.....can't stand Plante.  I have no idea what WMAL are thinking of...they will lose many, many listeners, some who have been loyal for decades including myself.  It was bad enough when Chris Core was  let go....now this.  Fred......I have tried listening to you this morning with Plante.....it is pretty dreadful.  Not your fault. Plante just likes the sound of his own voice, opinion, is rude and of course, has no sense of humor.  Fred....tell WMAL to go "you know where" and join Andy at another station and let us know.....

another disappointed listener

I so agree, I do not care for Plante so now I guess I will be going back to my country radio stations and listening to music instead of my Andy and Grandy

G Harrison

I absolutely agree whole-heartedly.  Core was great, Parks was level-headed, and Fred is still sagely comedic.  The bigger question is why hasn't another SMARTER radio station scooped these jewels up and offered them a show (with a contract based less on salary and based predominantly more on creatively structured incentives based on reached goals and endorsements), realizing that with them comes droves of listeners, LIKE ME and ALL OF THESE!  As for Chris Plante there is the good news and the bad news.  The bad news is he really needs to work on dropping all of the uhhs (it's really an annoying turn-off), as a sign of a poor public speaker -- he should just pause, get his thoughts together realizing if his points are topical and on-point we'll wait, and then speak.  The good news is . . . well, my mom always told me if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. I agree that Grandy was/is terrific, and it works with Bryan Nehman as a sidekick. I liked Andy, but, hate to say it, Grandy is just as entertaining without Andy.  As for Chris Core, I was glad to see him go. He was/is obnoxious and arrogant. He cut callers off, talked over them, would constantly justify aggressive driving, saying that traffic conditions should determine speeds.

2
Dissappointed Listner too...

I completely agree. I can't stand Chris Plante. He is so arragant and makes bold statements of personal observation and then scrambles to back it up with fact, while railroading other comments. Fred Grandy is unbelievably whitty. Andy Parks jabs at him. Neiman tries to give a balancing perspective. Then, Fred Grandy undresses the whole conversation with some insinuating comment that makes everyone burst into laughter as everyone works to them piece the whole conversation or argument back together. It was one of the most entertaining and well coordinated radio programs I've ever listened to and really made the mornings start off right. I am devastated that they are off the air. I can't listen to Plante, I can't stand him.

2
Totally Disappointed also ...

I also can't stand Chris Plante ... makes my skin crawl. He has no class. Why on earth would you get rid of the ONLY good show on WMAL -- Fred/Andy/Brian. Downfall started when they tossed Chris Core out. Sad. Very sad.

1
Very disappointed

Plante is an idiot.  I never really agreed with Andy or Grandy, but I enjoyed listening to them.  Plante has no support for anything he says...he just bashes everything and claims it's some sort of liberal conspiracy without even thinking about what he is saying.  The worst part is that Brian doesn't go off on Plante like he should.  When there is no one to callout Plante...all he does is spew more nonsense.  Case in point - Plante went off on Bob Woodward for writing another book...this one about Obama.  He immediately goes off on some crazy rant about Woodward w/o any reason.  Brian questions whether he is upset about Woodward, a reporter/writer, writing another book...since that is his job. Brian even mentions that he really enjoyed Woodward's book on Bush.  Plante of course has no answer and just continues to speak more nonsense.I'm done with WMAL.

I agree.  I've been listening to WMAL since the days of Harden and Weaver.  I miss Andy and don't listen to WMAL in the morning any longer.

I enjoyed listening to Andy in the morning- Gopher too oten plays the moron.  And Brian is a moron.  I too will switch from the station I have listened to since arriving via military orders to DC in 1990 and moving on to WTOP.  Good going WMAL-  You dumped Chris Core and now Andy Parks.  To keep Brian Moron and Gopher will be your undoing.

Julie Harrison

I can not believe you let Andy Parks go, he has been so many things to your station.  I have been a faithful listner to the morning program for over 30 years, it broke my heart not to hear Andy and Fred banter back and forth.  I am sorry, you have lost me as a faithfull listner. I don't like your new format.  Bring Andy back.......

1
PAULINE MACOMBER

You got rid of Chris and now Andy?  No way!  I'm changing stations.  Bring Andy back...

1
Shari Sturm

Totally agree with this comment.  Andy, Fred and Bryan kept me laughing.  Andy, even when I did not agree with him, was my favorite.  It's back to country music in the morning until they reunite the team.

5
disgruntled listener

I am another Grandy and Andy listener who will be switching to WTOP. WMAL has ruined their morning show.

Linda M

I've listened to WMAL since I came to VA in 1974.  So - now, like all the people who don't want to drive to work - and back home, while listening to hate-mongering - I will switch to WTOP.  Chris Core, Andy Parks and even Grandy added a note of levity to the day.  When they made "right wing" statements it was with a bit of fun (or the acknowlegment it was a shock statement) - not the anger of Plante and Levin.  I will listen for a half hour in the AM as Bryan Nehman is  entertaining and more conservative moderate.  But that is it until Sat and Sun . . . too bad.  Hope the guys have a good stack of $ saved up - and Bryan better start saving up for when he's let go too.

I was shocked this morning to releaize that Andy is gone.  I thought he was on vacation. I have lisented to the WMAL for at least the last 25 years and will now have to find another station.  I dislike Plante and was sad when Core left, but Andy and Grandy in the morning kind of made it better.  Sorry WMAL you have ruined your station@!!!!!

Sandy Harper

I listened this morning to the foremat on WMAl. Hated it. Nehman can't carry the show. Chris was yelling over Grandy. No chemistry. Fred sounded scared. Bring back Andy like you brought back Chris.

I agree Fred did seem scared this morning. I could picture him in a corner with a whip and chair.

2
Greg Peck

I can't see this show continuing without Fred and Andy.  Nehman was okay and gave a different slant and when all three were in the room it still worked, but when Grandy was off (many times) and it was just Andy and Nehman or vise versa, the show was never was as strong.  Chris plante is not a good option for me. I don't wish any harm to him, but he and Grandy didn't really click...  Management screwed the pooch.  Fred, get to Andy and find a different home - Try WBAL or WCBM... you two are a good working team that's hard to duplicate.
