Apple Schedules Sept 1 Event at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco
Apple sent out invitations for an event that will take place on September 1 at 10am Pacific Time at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The guitar on the invitation suggests that music will be involved. Traditionally, Apple updates its iPod line in the autumn, after dumping its existing stock via "student discount" packages, so we may see new iPods.
MacRumors predicts a Facetime-enabled iPod Touch. Other possibilities include a newer/cheaper Apple TV.
An iTunes revamp is also possible, especially since Apple bought--and shut down-- Lala, which was an online music store that allowed users to create shareable playlists, and brokered CD trades between users.
What’s most likely? An Internet-based version of iTunes, wrote analyst Gene Munster of PiperJaffray. Apple has been developing a giant data center in North Carolina, and he believes that could be the “hub” of a service that could stream iTunes content to connected devices.
