iPhone 4 Reception Issue with Holding the Phone

Why are people not demanding an Apple iPhone 4 Recall?

Update 1: iPhone Recall

Apparently the law firm of Kershaw, Cutter and Ratinoff may file a class action lawsuit in relation to the iPhone 4 reception problems.

If you recently purchased the new iPhone and have experienced poor reception quality, dropped calls and weak signals, we would like to hear from you.    Please call us toll free at (888) 285-3333, click "live chat" above to immediately

Earlier iPhone 4 Story

It is a simple question, really: would you buy a mobile phone that drops calls because of bad design? The answer is a resounding YES.

The public infatuation with all things Apple continues unabated as iPhone sales are through the roof despite acknowledged problems with dropped calls and reception problems and nary a whiff of a recall campaign despite many complaints.

Simply put, if you hold your lovely new iPhone 4 in a certain way there are good chances the call will drop - a big problem for left-handed users.

Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, called such problems "a fact of life for every wireless phone."

Umm... No. My old Nokia and Samsung are designed in such a way to work just fine thank you very much. The problem is the Apple design.

...if you cover the bottom-left corner of the phone and bridge the gap between the notch there with your naked flesh, you could see some signal degradation. Yes, you read that right: it's not a software or production issue, simply a matter of the physical location of your hand in regards to the phone's antenna.

So instead of Apple saying we will fix the problem, perhaps, heaven forbid a recall, of the iPhone 4 - what does Apple say we will sell you a bumper for $30 dollars to fix the problem.

Wow. I bet most companies would love to have so many meek sheep as customers.

And though the tech sites Engadget and Gizmodo are critical of Apple for the wireless reception problem they also let Apple off the hook in terms of a recall.

Engadget says the iPhone 4 is simply displaying the same reception problems as the iPhone 3G and Apple should provide free bumpers to users instead of charging them.

That would be a reasonable compromise. But if Apple does not provide free bumpers, I would suggest an iPhone 4 recall campaign.

If you want to register a public complaint about the iPhone there is a interesting site called Consumer Affairs that lets you do just that.

Left Handed iphone 4 users of the world unite.

I was so angry with my service with the Iphone and AT&T and that was before the new problems with the 4G. This video pretty much sums it up. Amazing Iphone can even cook a grilled cheese sandwich, but you are still lucky to make a call on it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdNg1nDiIZs

Instead of a recall, why not just return the phone until the problem is worked out?

That is what a recall is brian....

you're all a bunch of idiots. The metal is the antenna which if held by human skin, will reduce the bars, however that problem is easily solved by getting a case, which i hope you all ready intend to do to keep it from getting scratched etc... You should not continue to have those problems. Morons. i-phone all the way biatches.

I have an iphone4 and I have friends who have an iphone4. None of us can even recreate this problem if we try. I fear this is the media creating a bigger problem than it actually is.

I am extremely dissapointed with the attitude of Steve Jobs... and my new iPhone loosing signal. It is a clear design fault that makes it 'Not fit for purpose' IMO. That would be like a new car being launched that cut out when turning left, only for the response from the manufacturer to be 'just make right turns then!!!'  Its insulting... The fault needs to be rectified, but all customers should be given a free bumper to improve the situation in the mean time.

Consumer Reports said they can't and won't recommend the new iPhone 4 because of this issue. I think that says a lot... below you will find a link to the article.

If it’s acceptable to you, great.
