Apple Posts $10 Billion in Revenues
Recession be damned, Apple posted over $10 Billion in revenues for the first time ever. The iPod commands 70% of the mp3-player market share, having sold nearly 23 million of 'em.
Half of the Macs sold at the Apple Store were to people who had never owned one before, which probably had some effect on Microsoft's bottom line. Having said that, Mac users remain very much a minority in the personal-computing world.
Also, Apple posted sales of 13.7 million iPhones, though demand has been tapering.
You didn't expect Steve-Jobs-health transparency, did you? Good.
"How's Steve?...How will you run the company?...Tim will you be the likely candidate?"
Answer from Peter Oppenheimer, CFO: "Steve is the CEO of Apple."
Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2009 first quarter ended December 27, 2008. The Company posted record revenue of $10.17 billion and record net quarterly profit of $1.61 billion, or $1.78 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $9.6 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.58 billion, or $1.76 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 34.7 percent, equal to the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 46 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
(Disclosure: while I'm a dedicated Mac user, I'm not an adoring fanboy... I'm holding out on an upgrade until the new Macbooks get a bit less broken and they eschew that silly proprietary display port in favor of something real, like HDMI)

My sentiment exactly on the new Mac Book. I did not expect them to do that well though. Good for them.
