2012 KP 24: Asteroid Will Not Hit Earth
A small asteroid called 2012 KP 24 will buzz our planet on May 28, 2012. The asteroid will come very close to Earth, and we mean very close: closer than some of our geosynchronous satellites at roughly 18,000 miles.
However, 2012 KP 24 will not hit Earth, so hold onto those doomsday scenarios. The asteroid will be at its closest at approximately 11am ET/8am PT on May 28.
Can You See the Asteroid as It Passes Earth?
Asteroid 2012 KP 24 will not be visible from the ground with the naked eye. It is only 25 meters across: Usain Bolt could run across it in roughly 2 1/2 seconds.
Well spotted, Minor Planet Center.
