The original idea of the Internet was an academic one it then turned into a business communication related service. It has been exploited to the full as it’s a portal to most businesses, schools and the family home.

What I could never understand is why porno sites have been allowed to flourish, my objection to this is not a religious one I am an atheist. Daily my email accounts are bombarded with sex orientated spam and I am often thrown onto a sex site when I am surfing and researching for some of the articles I write.  But that’s not the only factors why I feel that porn should be banned on the internet.

It’s more to do with the fact that this sleazy stuff can be assessed by children yes there are applications that can filter out porn but the products come at a price. The porn should not be there in the first place and there is no true control on its content and limits to its nastier side.

In 1998, Forrester Research published a report on the online "adult content" industry estimating $750 million to $1 billion in annual revenue and the online industry has been growing at a rapid pace I would expect the actual figures have quadrupled since the report.

I also feel that there is a lack of control over the various chat and web cam services and have been disgusted whilst researching by the way many adult men behave behind web cams. These services can be assessed by children of whom lie about their age.

I am not total anti porn, I believe that porn should only be sold over a counter to adults only. It’s then controllable.

ICANN has the ability to stop the registration of porn sites and unsavory adult chat rooms but seemingly feels the internet is open house to the porn industry.

I would like to see the internet cleaned up but no control over the freedom of speech, at present these porn site morons are polluting the search engines and have free license to do so. Some countries try to block the hard porn for religious or political reasons of morality but that’s not working well.

Consider the fact that the US government has the last say at ICANN and have the power to end porno on the internet. But of course the revenue from such places as San Fernando Valley porn studios seemingly take preference. The total porn business in USA was estimated as being $8-10 billion in 1998 that of course would be doubled over the past ten years, it’s a growth industry that can survive without the internet.

Its always been as simple as policing the dot com’s  to eradicated the porn.

Absolutely Agree. Babel.

I second that. Ban 'em all up and make them pay per view so the young ones' minds would be safe from its poison.

To ban any industry because one does not agree with it does not make any sense what about people that are against smoking or oil or any industry that kills people? Or that is bad for the earth or I mean how far would it go because there are a lot worse things and industries out there on the web than porn, which by the way usually makes a person feel good!
