British Columbia is gearing up for Bike to Work Week and by the price of gas reaching upwards of $6.00 a gallon, so using your bike is pretty much a given by many who parked their cars and hit the trails on their bikes. Bike week sould be every week, imagine if you will Vancouver as a Canadian Netherlands, where bikes outnumber cars.
I am also going to link this story with Now Public's Contributor Beaulieu, whose recent story on Cycling and bike trails in Europe bring to mind a pastime that should be recaptured considering those concerned with out environment still take the car to the corner store.
Let's hope drivers remember to give cyclists the right of way as they are helping reduce vehicle traffic and helping the environment too boot, on your behalf too if you cannot take your bike to work.
Happy Cycling!!
3,600 ready to roll in Bike to Work WeekAllison Cross, Vancouver SunPublished: Monday, May 26, 2008It's been years since Candace Bonfield even sat on a bicycle, but she plans to embark on a gruelling hour-long climb up Burnaby Mountain every morning this week.
"I live at the base of the mountain. I've been going to the gym a little bit," said Bonfield, who works at Simon Fraser University as a sustainability coordinator. "You know, to get my legs ready."
