Ben Breedlove Battled Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy with a Little Help from Kid Cudi

Ben Breedlove, an 18-year-old Austin, Texas high school student,  suffered from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a disease in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, preventing it from properly pumping blood.

Ben Breedlove posted a two videos to YouTube, which you can watch below; these videos, performed with Bob Dylan-inspired text cards, describe growing up with a life-threatening disease.

The second video also describes an December 6, 2011 incident ("the third time I cheated death"), in which Ben Breedlove finds himself in a blank white Matrix-like room... with Kid Cudi.

Ben Breedlove wrote, "I was wearing a really nice suit, and so was my fav rapper, Kid Cudi. Why he was the only one there with me, I'm still trying to figure out. But I was looking at myself in the mirror in front of me. The first thing I thought was, Damn, we look good! [...] Kid Cudi brought me to a glass desk and put his hand on my shoulder. Right then, my favorite song of his came on, Mr. Rager. The part where it said, 'When will the fantasy end, when will the heaven begin?' And he said, 'Go now'. Right then, I woke up and the EMS were doing CPR."

On December 25, 2011, Ben Breedlove suffered a fatal heart attack.

Kid Cudi found out about Ben Breedlove and his videos, and posted on his own blog, Cud Life:

I broke down, Iam to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do. Why I write my life, and why I love you all so much. Life is really fucked up sometimes, but I know Ben is at Peace, and I hope he gets a chance to sit and talk with my Dad. We love you Ben. Forever. Thank you for loving me. To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definately mine. You have my love.

Ben Breedlove's YouTube videos have been watched over two million times. Tributes are appearing across YouTube, some of which we also include in the video player below.
