BlackBerry Email Down Again in North America

BlackBerry's email service is down for the second time in a week across North America. This problem lies with BlackBerry itself, and is not limited to any particular mobile phone service provider. The outage has been affecting email, Internet, and messaging. BlackBerry service is largely restored, but not entirely, as of this writing.

According to BlackBerry, the problem lies in two recent verisons of BlackBerry Messenger: version 5.0.0.55 and version 5.0.0.56.

"Some BlackBerry customers in the Americas are currently experiencing delays in message delivery," the company said in a statement. "Our technical teams are actively working to resolve this issue for those impacted. We apologize for any inconvenience."

The latest failure for BlackBerry users happened Tuesday afternoon, when a network failure spread across North and South America, a failure far more extensive than the RIM network breakdown last week that affected North America.

No mobile outage prevented angry users from tweeting about the problem, though. One useful aspect of the flood of BlackBerry-down tweets was that we could immediately see that the problem was not specific to one carrier.
