BlackBerry email service is down in North and South America. According to Research in Motion (RIM), the Canadian-based company that operates the BlackBerry network, this outage affects private users, but not corporate users. So, if your work gave you your BlackBerry, you will probably still be receiving  email. Yuliya is telling us that her BlackBerry email is working again, and that she's getting emails sent since last night; nothing seems to have been lost. If woke up this morning to find your BlackBerry email not working, you should be sorted out soon, though it will probably take a bit of time for the queued messages to clear.

The outage began around 3:15am EST.

A Rogers spokesperson said the problem affects BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) customers, but not corporate customers who use BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES).

BES customers use add-on software to link to systems such as Microsoft Exchange through a corporate server.

Sort of a shame that it affects BIS and not BES, since lifestyle users get CrackBerry email because they want to, while corporate users get it because they have to.
