NP Rank:
Bloomberg - Soon to Own Western Hemisphere?
As some of you may know, I am currently in the job market, looking, once again, for those greener pastures, although, these days, somewhat wistfully, I must admit. My resume is out there in a few, shall we say discreetly chosen locations, and as a result, no doubt, I am sometimes contacted by recruiters, or, as we say in the biz, those fearsome beasts, the head hunters.
Only yesterday I received just such an e-mail, a partial redaction of which I present here
Extract of Private E-mail:
Hello, My name is <redact> and I'm an executive recruiter with <redact>. We have been in partnership with Bloomberg over the past <redact>, chartered to do <redact> for them. <redact> has a proprietary <redact> called <redact>. Bloomberg utilizes our <redact> for <redact>. For more information on <redact>, please go to <redact>.
Bloomberg is located in NYC (Mayor Mike Bloomberg owns the company), and makes <redact>. Plus, they also have a syndicated news service (tv and radio) and publish books and magazines. Bloomberg has contracted <redact> to help them <redact> at their corporate headquarters in Midtown Manhattan. This is a great way to <redact> the financial industry (if you haven't already) because they are focused on <redact>, and they look at your domain knowledge <redact>. You will be trained in <redact> along the way. They look for people who are problem solvers and analytical thinkers.
Bloomberg has recently reached 6 billion in annual revenue and has recently stated goals of reaching 10 billion in annual sales by 2010. They are aggressively growing out all facets of their business in order to achieve these goals. They have put together very attractive employee compensation/bonus programs based on achieving these newly announced goals. If you are interested in this opportunity, please send me a copy of your resume and let me know when you will be available to talk, or please pass along to your peers.
Well, at any any rate, as someone once said, it is nice to be noticed ...
In what may be, for me, an altogether far too rare moment of honestly, I must admit, that, actually, I know very little about the man. So, I did some checking, and here's what I found
Bloomberg's money machine There's power in that name. The man, Michael Bloomberg, runs New York City and may have even grander ambitions. The company, Bloomberg LP, is a prodigious success and just keeps getting stronger. By Carol J. Loomis, Fortune editor-at-large April 5 2007: 6:08 AM EDT
(Fortune Magazine) -- After he had been ignominiously fired from a firm he loved, started a financial-information company that almost no one thought had a chance - and then triumphantly watched it change the landscape of Wall Street - Michael Bloomberg forecast how The New York Times would cover his death. His success, he said in 1998, flashing the ego that is one of his trademarks, ensured him "a long obituary."
And that was before he was twice elected mayor of New York City, a job that he holds today and that has won him approval ratings George W. Bush would die for. Now, with Bloomberg's second term as mayor due to end in early 2010 and his 65th birthday just past, the question is what Mayor Mike will do next to embellish his obit.
Most impressive, to say the least. A second Bill Gates, well, maybe not, but property values may already be moving up in Venezuela!
Here's a tip of the hat to Mike Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York City!
