BMW Recall 2010: Worldwide Recall for Power Brake Leak

BMW is recalling nearly 350,000 cars worldwide due to a potential leak in the power braking system. If you own one of the BMW or Rolls Royce models affected by the recall, contact your dealer for an inspection.

BMW referred to the recall as "voluntary", though the automaker is required to initiate recalls in the face of a defect which affects vehicle safety.

BMW, Rolls Royce Affected Models:

  • 2002-08 BMW 745i/Li, 750i/Li, 760i/Li
  • 2007-08 BMW Alpina B7
  • 2004-10 BMW 645i, 650i
  • 2004-10 BMW 545i, 550i
  • 2003-2010 Rolls-Royce Phantom

They may develop a leak in the power braking system, which risks vacuum loss and consequent reduction of power braking.

Mechanical braking will still be available to slow and stop the vehicle, which may explain why there have been no reports of accidents or injuries.
