Riverside, California - The judge that ordered MGA Entertainment Inc.'s Bratz dolls be removed from store shelves by February 11th has extended the deadline through to the end of 2009, due to "the clear importance of the Bratz line to MGA's financial health."

Judge Stephen G. Larson, who has on several occasions expressed worry that retailers could be adversely affected by the case, gave MGA a glimmer of hope. He wrote in an order Tuesday that the company had convinced him that "a modification" might be made "to address the concerns regarding the 2009 retail buying season."

MGA was found to have engaged in copyright infringement in creating the toys, whose designer was said to have constructed the Bratz concept while employed with Barbie creator Mattel.

Mattel has asked that a receiver be appointed to monitor the financial dealings of MGA.

Thanks for the updates on this story Blue crush! This decision is very lenient. Gives the consumers some time to stock up on Bratz dolls.

MGA has convinced the Court that a modification of its current stay order to address the concerns regarding the 2009 retail buying season is appropriate. Accordingly, the parties are granted leave to file, no later than January 2, 2009, proposed language for modification of the Court’s stay order so as to address the retailer concerns identified by MGA for 2009.

I'm sure a lot of kids will be happy to see them stay around, at least till the year end.

Saw this scary doll head based on the BRATZ(r) dolls and just had to take a picture of it to share with the world to show just how scary these 'toys' can be. I don't have any kids at this time, but I would never buy this type of toy for my (future) kids or my friends children.
