As reported earlier on NowPublic the Sony PSN has crashed.

There are now calls from gamers around the globe to sue Sony over the issue as the Playstation Network sits crashed and offline.

In an unprecidented move Sony has advised all but those with the latest Playstation 3 console not to use their machines. This is millions of users worldwide.

The new Playstation 3 has not realised the sales that Sony expected and some are even speculating that the glitch is designed to convince more gamers to upgrade to the new thinner Playstation 3.

The more likely explanation is felt to be poor initial software design from Sony probably in the functionality of the onboard clock.

This will not do Sony any favours in its ongoing battle with other consoles in particular the XBox.

Sony's reputation could be irreversibly damaged as the company faces a barrage of complaints from the core of its players, those who have purchased the first few millions Playstation 3 gaming consoles.
Sony said it was working hard to identify and resolve the problem, which has left thousands of gamers unable to play their favourite games or access the online service called PlayStation Network.

Sony has told owners of older models of its PlayStation 3 console to stop using the machine because of a problem with the PlayStation Network.

The problem is affecting people using the older versions of the PlayStation 3, called the "Fat" model.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is aware that some users have been unable to connect to PlayStation Network. This problem affects PlayStation 3 systems other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
