Can Wii outsell the Playstation 2?

Now that the Wii has surpassed PlayStation 2’s worldwide sales at the end of the two year mark, it is likely that we will see the Wii outsell the PlayStation 2 at the end of this generation. Nintendo has come a long way since they first entered the console market; it is good to see they still got it in them.

If anyone has noticed, the Wii is actually on the verge of selling as many units as the PlayStation 2 did last generation. It is not for certain yet, but by the looks of it, Nintendo will be in control of the market for the rest of this generation. You can say that the Wii sucks and that it appeals to five year olds, but the fact of the matter is, is it has some great looking titles on the way such as: MadWorld and The Conduit. Let’s not forget about the great games it has out already, and the newly released classic shooter, House of The Dead.

This generation for Nintendo was a complete turnaround if you look at last generation. There is no doubt in my mind that Nintendo can stick it out for “Sony’s” 10 year cycle and will continue to dominate the rest of this awesome yet unpredictable generation. Nintendo came into this generation with a so-called “gimmick” with disappointing hardware specs, but look at them now. They have surprised us all this time around and are yet to pursuit every one’s dream of having this generation’s top selling console.

What Nintendo needs to do now (and this is only my most educated suggestion) is to focus on appealing to the hardcore gamer. I mean they have “some” hardcore games but the amount and the quality are really no exception in the eyes of the actual hardcore gamer. They have the potential, the money, and the power to make this all happen, but to make this last the whole ten years, they need to change things up a little bit. By that I mean branch off of the casual crowd and expand your market. It amazes me on how far they have come and it will be a shame to see them not come in first this generation after already dominating the way they are now. As you can see, anything is bound to happen but for Nintendo to not come out on top this generation will be like the New England Patriots and their last super bowl attempt.
