Canada Welcomes World's Largest Electron Microscope
The world's newest and most powerful electron microscope was recently unveiled in Hamilton, Ontario. Built in the Netherlands, The Titan 80-300 Cubed has been installed in the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy at McMaster University.
Centre director Gianluigi Botton called the resolution of the $15-million microscope remarkable, saying it would be the equivalent of the Hubble Telescope looking at the atomic level instead of at stars and galaxies.
He said with this microscope, scientists can now easily identify atoms, measure their chemical state and even probe the electrons that bind them together.
