Casey Neistat made an instructional video for those unfamiliar with chatroulette. Chatroulette is a site which connects you to a random stranger via webcam. In theory, chatroulette will introduce you to interesting people all around the world. In reality, it connects you with shut-ins, perverts, and goatse. Indeed, Casey Neistat broke down his Thursday-afternoon chatroulette session into:

  • 71% Boys
  • 15% Girls
  • 14% Perverts

Chatroulette vernacular

The best part (for me, a non-user) was the vernacular. For example, Nexted: when a stranger disconnects immediately after seeing what you look like. If memory serves, that's the name of an MTV reality show, where a single person decides whether or not to date someone based on meeting them for a very short amount of time, sometimes less than a minute.

Neistat says, "The majority of my time on Chatroulette is spent having people choose not to talk to me."

But why?

Personally, I don't find Chatroulette very appealing. I deal with strangers on the Internet all day, every day. No offense, but I don't really want to carry on doing so in my free time: that's when I get to talk to people face to face.

Unfortunately there are way more perverts on chat roulette than one would think. At least they are curbing this by implementing the 10 minute Report ban. But this site has not even taken off yet. It's only gaining momentum.
