Catmacart Corporation, the creators of the visual artist networking site www.myartspace.com, has announced an ecommerce site for buying and selling art. The New York Art Exchange (www.nyaxe.com), also known as NYAXE, was officially opened during a launch party in Miami during the Bridge Art Fair last week. The press reception for NYAXE took place at Bridge Wynwood.

The creators of NYAXE have stated that the site will serve as a platform for the buying and selling of art and that it will connect collectors, artists and gallerists together with cutting edge technology. During the reception staff members revealed some of the capabilities of the site, including video conferencing between buyer and seller.

Sellers on NYAXE can list various items, including: original artwork, digital versions of the work, or offer an on-demand print version of the artwork on merchandise such as posters, note cards, and Giclees. The storefronts can be organized into categories such as watercolors, original works, sculptures, to make it easy for art collectors to find what they are looking for.

There are five different levels to choose from in building a NYAXE gallery storefront. A basic storefront is free for the first five listings, and each level provides more advanced features and marketing capabilities and cost effective pricing structures. The various tiers of service are designed to enable artists and gallerists to try their hand at ecommerce to build a basic store at a low cost. The commission varies from 5% to 15% depending on the store program that the seller has selected.

Beats 30% that my gallery takes. Still it would be better if there were no commission.
