CBS News Anchor Katie Couric Gets Her Own iPhone App
CBS News tech-savvy anchor Katie Couric is stepping up her digital presence a notch by releasing her own iPhone App. CBS announced on Wednesday that the new app called CBS News Katie Couric will be a "one-stop destination" for keeping up with all Couric's reporting on all platforms of CBS News. The app is promised to go "beyond headlines" and feature breaking news, "best of Katie Couric" highlights from CBS Evening News, 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning, interviews and excerpts from @KatieCouric webcast, and updates from her blog. It comes short of asking what papers and magazines your read.
The App, developed by July Systems, has been released on January 5 and is available for download at the Apple App store at no charge.
Given that average cost of development for an iPhone App is anywhere between $20,000 and $100,000, it is quite an investment for the CBS to develop a whole separate App for one anchor. But, it seems Katie Couric has a lot of branding power. Just recently, Couric launched her own video podcast "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric." She is also on Twitter @katiecouric.
“Katie has an innate ability to connect with her audience across a variety of mediums,” said Mark Larkin, Vice President of CBSNews.com. “Over the past year, we have seen how her Web coverage has attracted new viewers, and sustained a high level of audience engagement.
Couric is currently the highest-paid news anchor at $15 million per year.
But, do you think Katie Couric is the only news anchor who deserves to have her own iPhone App? To find out, we created a poll to let you vote. Share your opinion with us!
